People living in extra care housing hold a tenancy for their own self-contained accommodation within a building called a scheme.
Each scheme has an on-site Care and Support team who are available 24 hours a day to help residents with activities such as personal care, setting up health related appointments and arrangements to cover paying bills, claiming benefits etc.
The Care and Support team will work to help people to do as much for themselves as they can so they can remain independent and living in the community for as long as possible. Extra care housing could be a real alternative to a Residential Care Home for older people.
